A Father's Day Reflection

It's Father's Day. Besides a celebration, it is also a solemn reminder of the duties he holds: a role model, a guide, and a source of strength for his family. His actions have far-reaching impacts, especially on his children who look up to him for direction and encouragement.

It's been 21 years since I became a father, and each day I wake up pondering how this boy, who I feel I still am inside, has taken on the significant responsibility of being a dad to three. I often reflect on whether I have met the right expectations in the eyes of God and those around me. The journey of fatherhood continues to be both humbling and rewarding, constantly pushing me to develop and strive to improve.

Although the kids are now much older, and I remember navigating through the early years of sleepless nights, diaper changing, and organising birthday parties, my role has evolved. Now, I find myself more often in the position of a counsellor and advisor. This means we must grow as parents, maturing alongside our children as their needs and challenges change. It is a continuous journey of learning and adaptation.

I sincerely believe that all dads are making their best endeavours to fulfil their roles. While aware of the immense responsibilities, many might also be grappling with other issues, such as work or health. Despite these struggles, the dedication and love they invest in being there for their families is what truly counts. On this day, let us recognise and appreciate the commitment and sacrifices of fathers everywhere.
