Twin Ballet Narratives: Shannon's Journey and Sisterly Bonds

Shannon and Amber on stage at the AQ Dance Recital, 2 Sep 2023

Shannon and Amber shared the stage for what could be their last dance last Saturday. Artiste Quotient hosted its first recital since COVID, perfectly timed for Shannon's graduation year performance. Amber, on the other hand, has 2 years to go and will likely perform on stage again.

Dancing with your sister on stage – would it be a cause for arguments or a moment of harmony and togetherness? I often ponder the emotions they might experience during practices, rehearsals, and live shows. Perhaps Amber seeks out Shannon for support and reassurance, while the older sister occasionally becomes frustrated? Their bond and collaborative dynamic captivate me. I'm intrigued by the unique emotions they might share, not just when dancing but also in their everyday lives. However, only they truly know, and such feelings are likely kept hidden deep within their hearts.

Shannon and her friend, Emily, received their graduating awards from Ms Jo,
their long-time dance teacher and Principal of AQ Dance.

Starting ballet in 2007 at the tender age of 4, Shannon has consistently practised 2-3 times a week, not including the additional hours she devoted to her CCAs at school. I am immensely proud of her. Her perseverance, dedication, and conviction are commendable. Over the years, while many of her peers chose to leave - a trend commonly seen in challenging disciplines - Shannon remained, a testament to her commitment. Only the truly devoted reach the final grades in their chosen art form. Beyond dance, this passion has sharpened her discipline for her studies, and projects, and I hope, will continue to serve her well into the future.
