My F1 fanboys(girls)

For some strange reason, Shannon has become a big F1 fan. Apparently, she supports McLaren although it's quite tough to extract a reason for this - I can only think of 2. Either the drivers are very handsome or she likes the McLaren sports cars, or perhaps both. The orange livery on the car is also quite eye-catching, but that's just for me - I mainly watch the races for the spectacular crashes and drama at the pit lanes.

This year's Singapore GP was rather exciting due to the wet and slippery road which refused to dry up, due to the humidity. This could also explain why it seems like there have been more skidding accidents on the PIE recently.

Given the ongoing exams (and also high ticket prices), we didn't get actual tickets to the F1, much to Shannon's disappointment. But she does have her sights set on next year's race. So what we did instead was head down to Marina Square on Friday to catch parts of the practice session.

Surprisingly there are a few locations where you can actually see and (definitely) hear the cars roaring by. The first place we went to had us peering through the shrubs, but as we continued to explore (by following the somewhat knowledgable crowd), we found other spots which afforded us the luxury of watching the cars slow down to take turns instead of just zooming by.

Shannon exclaimed at one point - "we are breathing the same air as the F1 drivers". And that includes the exhaust and burnt rubber!

At the end of the night (we stayed until 10pm when the practice session ended) she managed to convert Amber into a fan as well (not the spinning type, please). She spent the ride home trying to decide which team to support - and it obviously could not be McLaren. 🏁
