Giving Thanks for all that we have

In some parts of the world, Thanksgiving is being celebrated today. It's meant to allow people to be grateful for the harvest they gathered over the year, and celebrate the abundance of blessings they have received.

We too can look at our "harvest" - the fun memories we've made, the meaningful work we've accomplished, our health and the ability to afford the necessities of life. We also remember the little moments we had during the year, which at those points didn't seem to be significant - conversations we've had with friends, a handshake (or fist pump), a smile, sharing a meal with your child.

We don't celebrate it here, but it is something we should remember each day of our lives. There are always reasons to complain - but when you think about it, there's so much more to be thankful for.

COVID or not, birthday celebrations go on - and there's always time for a nice Japanese meal!

This year has been challenging for everyone, children and adults alike. And in many ways, it is possibly worse than 2020 - but we've seen the light at the end of the tunnel and draw strength from each other, knowing that we'll make it through as a family, a county, a race.

So even as the pandemic continues to rage on in many parts of the world, let us remember it is our gratitude for what we have, and not greed, that keeps us grounded and joyful. And even as we strive to grow out of our comfort zones and capabilities, our humility and honesty should set up apart from the ruthless and vicious in our society.
