Our Sunday Routine
It's coming up to 2 months of (semi) lockdown and we've started forming a routine. In fact, what initially seemed like a daunting task where we couldn't go out for many things, have become somewhat normal. We've gotten used to, and even enjoyed some of our new practices.
For example, Masses in the church have been suspended since February, 3 months ago. Attending services online initially seemed weird and strange - but we've gotten used to it and in the last two months, we've been attending Masses online together with my parents and brother via Zoom. It's almost like the real thing, minus the slight lag and inability to physically hug people in the other home in person - although you can still shout "peace" and flash a smile at the camera.
You can pause the priest if you need to go to the toilet |
Recently, we also threw into the mix, a family Rosary session with kids and adults taking turns to read out the prayers and dedications and lead in the Hail Marys.
A combination of Zoom, Powerpoint, and slide-clicker make Online Roasry an enjoyable family activity. |
As the Rosary slide maker, it is my job to ensure all the pictures and words are properly placed and that everyone (11 of us) has a part to read. We've learned to use one phone as a portable Zoom microphone to pass around amongst the readers so that your voice can be heard on the other side.
Typically after Mass, we have a Kahoot session followed by online Karaoke. The interactive quizzes are enjoyed by the children and grandparents whilst I still haven't figured out the Karaoke yet - maybe it's because you need to use a Chinese app, which leaves me confused.
Yesterday, we tried something different - Bingo!
You have to shout Bingo loud enough so that the other players (which might be located several km or more away) can hear you. Else, you'll forfeit your chance to win! |
It wasn't too difficult to organise and run the game, given the availability of sites which can help you get set-up. I think the most difficulty is in the distribution of prizes - and that's mainly because kids don't have PayNow.
The winnings, just a few dollars, was kindly sponsored by Grandpa - even though he didn't know about this until moments before the game started! 😆
