Maturity, in the eyes of God and man

You received the Sacrament of Confirmation over the weekend, signifying that you have become a mature young adult in the eyes of God and the Church. You received the Holy Spirit, which means you have been empowered, reinforced and strengthened in faith.

I want to believe that changes are coming. Bit by bit, step by step. And belief is the first thing needed to build a strong trust that will last, the knowledge that you will always try to do the right thing, even if you emotionally feel like doing something different.

I believe that you can be trusted. I trust that you believe that your faith is real, and is strengthened by your confirmation and because we have raised you in the right way and continue to try and correct you when you’re not behaving appropriately. It might seem like nagging, but it’s meant to be.

But you are still a teen, rebellious, angsty and stubborn – this timeless situation will continue to haunt us, at least for the next several years.
