Deep in the midst of the holidays
So we're right smack in the midst of the December holidays once again. Some of us have already returned from an overseas holiday, a few are in the midst of one and others (like us) will be leaving for one soon. The lucky few have returned from one and are going on their second one!!
If you're not going on one, it's alright - it's nice to stay home and chill out, which is what I sometimes want to do - hanging out with the kids, cycling, walking by the beach, swimming.
But what I wanted to discuss is the need to keep up to date with studying - is it really needed? Are holidays truly a complete break from the books, the writing, the reading, the thinking? While most students think the answer is a resounding YES, I, however, feel the answer is a definite NO.
The brain is a muscle. And although you don't take it out at the gym and stack some weights on top of it (I have a gross image in my mind right now), it does need to be constantly used. A month or more of not exercising and you know what will happen - lethargy, body aches, muscle wastage - all applicable to the brain as well.
So my advice - continue with some light work, even 20 minutes a day, would keep that engine running in neutral (which is an analogy I don't like due to the unnecessary release of carbon gases) and ready to go for that new school term.
If anyone complains, you can blame Uncle Leonard! Haha!
