Chasing planes

National Day is upon us again, and in the years gone by, that would mean visits to the Marina Barrage or Bay area during the weekends to catch a glimpse of the jets and fireworks. It has been some time since we've done that, given that this period is also exam time and there's so much homework to finish and dance classes to attend and the like.

Lucky for us, no bombs were dropped. Photo captured by Shannon.
But this weekend we made it down. Despite the shortage of parking, large crowds and chaotic junctions manned by traffic police, we made it down to what turned out to be a really good location, the Double Helix bridge. Besides being right next to the floating platform, it was directly in the flight path of the jets and helicopters!

As the Apaches and F16s flew in their formations, afterburners set to 110%, our eardrums burst with the delightful roar of victory and freedom. At the end, in a salute to the nation, a single F16 did a vertical climb directly above us - we could see right into the flames from its engine, as it blasted straight up into the cloudy blue sky.

Shannon, the girl who once cried at the loud booms of fireworks, turned to me and smiled. She said, "That was so loud and so satisfying!"

Happy BIrthday to Singapore, our Home.
