Singaporean (kids) and Snow
It hardly never snows in Singapore. In fact, besides the once in a generation appearance of hailstones, the only way to simulate this is to stand under an ice-kachang machine or go to Snow City.
I can't get enough of this white stuff |
So when a Singaporean (child) encounters these white fluffy freezing miracle bits of mother-nature which fall freely from the sky, they go Bezerk - sometimes even when it's just a small patch by the side of the road. Ignoring all warnings of cold, wet shoes and clothing and the possibility of fingers and ears falling off, they stomp around, dive into and throw the snow everywhere in an insane effort to cover themselves totally with the freezing material. After a moment they also begin to try to eat the stuff and then hurl snowballs at each other, at first in the spirit of fun, then annoyance and finally revenge - I think some wars were started like this.
(I can imagine an Eskimo visiting a sunny beach for the first time and doing roughly the same thing.)
After 15 minutes of mindless fooling around in the snow, and only when prompted (100 times) to go, they will say "Mummy/Daddy, my gloves/pants/jacket is all wet, I'm cold etc ..." At this point, you can actually say "go and play in the snow again!" and they will go "Yay!!" and forget about the cold.
