A Growth Mindset: Hair Today, More Tomorrow

A regular comment I get these days is, “Your hair is so long. Aren’t you going to cut it?” which brings me back in time to my University days when I last had long hair. For someone in his 20s, it was a cool asset to have – a full head of overflowing hair. For someone in his 40s, it is pretty much the same right?

But I guess the “concerns” are different.

  • In 20s – looking like a hippie, nobody is going to take you seriously and how are you going to land a good job?
  • In 40s – looking like an older hippie, can your boss fire you because of your long hair? Will your kids be a) badly influenced by you or b) think that you are too cool/progressive for a role model?

Let's Start at the very beginning, a very good place to Start!
I have many colleagues who have long hair. Given, most of them are females, based in Europe or both – but then again, your performance and ability to deliver should not be determined by your hairstyle (or lack of) unless you work in certain industries – like maybe in F&B or if you’re a pilot. Also you cannot legally force me to stand at the back of the queue.

And just as it did in my 20s, it’s starting to grow on me.
