Choose to love
Nothing seems to go our way– it’s like we are fighting a losing
battle. The problem is that the world is filled with other humans who do not
think like us, or even worse, dare to disagree. This diversity thing can sometimes
really become a pain. Clones can be good.
When you stumble upon another person, be it a colleague,
friend, even a close family member, who has different opinions, ways of doing
things, personalities or work ethic, it can be challenging. They do things in
their own style, at their own pace and sometimes with their own expected outcomes.
It’s strange that even an offspring of
yours can have such a conflicting personality – isn’t the inheritance of DNA and genes
supposed to result in our ability to live in perfect harmony?
What can we do? Get frustrated and wonder why nobody listens
to us.
Then again, we can recognise that, irritating as it is,
everyone is different and we each bring to the table (especially during dinner)
traits and gifts that make us an assorted box of chocolates, like what Mr. Gump
once alluded to.
Once we accept this, and understand that people are likely
(by default) to disagree with us at every turn of the corner, or even when we’re walking straight, then life
becomes less of a misery, and more of a mystery. And we can even decide to love
them for who they are, how they actually add a dash of colour to our lives in
ways that you never realised. It is not that they want to disagree, it is
because they love us that they want to engage and challenge us … that’s a
positive spin on things.
