Critical Year

| Shannon celebrated her 12th birthday recently |
We’re already 2 weeks into this critical
year for Shannon – yes, she is in Primary 6 this year
and the PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination) looms large in October. Yes,
it is the dread and fear of every parent. For me, that is true – but also
because beyond that, she will join her elder brother in the so-called ranks of
the Teens. Now, that is the true dread, won’t you agree?
I help her with her
school work, especially Maths. And suddenly, all the memories of mathematical
formulas and strategies are flooding back, from way back. 2 years ago to be
precise. So it’s time to hit the textbooks for me
again and hopefully she will get into the school of her choice.
She’s carrying
on with her CCAs and ballet for the moment, hoping to maintain some normalcy in
her life. A bit like tending your garden in the midst of a World War – so far
things are calm and she’s doing fine. Thanks for asking!
