Last Day of work at HP

Today is my last day of work at HP.

But the same is true for about 300,000 other employees.

I hardly ever blog about my job and work, but today is such a historic day - and that's not because it's the eve of Halloween - although the kids are really looking forward to a Halloween event we are attending tomorrow.

Today is basically the last (working) day in the 76 year life of HP as we know it. Starting next week, two new companies will be born. Logically speaking, these will be startups.

As you work in any job, for any organisation, there will be ups and downs, as everyone knows. One day you feel like quitting, and the next you're super hyped up over the prospects. I've been in HP for over 13 years and I've gone through this cycle many times - and each time I remind myself about the initial reason I joined, why I loved the brand, the culture (which is still somewhat intact), the people, the beliefs.

Time and time again, this has worked - and even though the company isn't doing as great as it once was, or as some of our competitors are doing, I still believe in the brand, our products and the vision of our new management team.

Ask me next week, and I'll tell you once again, what startup life if like.
