The Trouble with Test Papers
Test papers is big business! Now someone has to mark them. |
(Celest recently bought a standing file, in an attempt to neaten things up - see the picture to the right which depicts some completed papers, organised in a tidy fashion by yours truly.)
So we get the kids to do the papers. They spend time writing, erasing, scribbling, cancelling, and after several weeks, there is a stack of completed papers sitting on the table - well, not really sitting, since test papers have no legs and backsides.
Occasionally the exams come and go and only then do we stumble upon a these test papers. They are Unmarked! I wonder if there is any benefit in doing test papers without getting them marked - most likely not.
Lesson learnt - if you ask the kids to do test papers, you have to mark them and after that, go through the answers with them to ensure they learn from their mistakes. So set aside some of your own time for this - it is a two way street if you want them to excel.
I don't remember doing test papers from other schools when I was in primary school - but no choice these days - it is a way of life!
