Achieved my Learning Journey goals for this year!

Learning journeys are extra fun when your dad comes along!
One of my personal goals this year was to accompany the girls on at least one learning journey each. Nigel's school doesn't seem to request for parent volunteers, not that I know of at least - but it's quite likely that he doesn't convey the requests from his teacher.

So earlier this year I went with Amber and her class to the Botanic Gardens - it was a hot day, but the girls had fun looking at flowers and counting trees and steps - yes, it was apparently a bit of a Maths learning journey in the Gardens. There's lots of things to count, including flowers, trees and arches.

Walking behind the Supreme Court trying to escape the law
And just last week, I accompanied Shannon's class to the Civic District (i.e. Raffles Hotel, the Padang, Supreme Court, Singapore River). It was a hot day (do you see a theme here?) but the girl's received an educational morning of Singapore history and tips on how to cross the road without getting knocked over. The girls were guided via GPS-enabled smartphones apps which give information about various locations as we walked around.

I got to meet some of their friends and listen in to some girly gossip. Even between 8 and 10 year olds, the quality (and quantity) of gossip significantly jumps. If possible, I'd ask God to stop my daughters from growing any further because the teenager years are not too far away and I'm not quite ready yet.

Anyhow, Learning Journeys are fun - not just for the kids, but also for the parent volunteers. The teachers, on the other hand, I'm not too sure about. Being with a bunch of noisy girls five days a week can wear anyone down and cause a brain meltdown.
