The Day the Boy sat still

From the moment he figured out his balance, Nigel has had trouble sitting still. Even during meals, he would have to get up, walk around, run into things and people and generally cause trouble to fellow humans and domestic animals.

Nigel at two and a half years old, looking to cause some trouble.
However, recently I realised that he has stopped doing this.

The other day we had lunch with the extended family - grandparents, uncle, aunty, cousins - and even before they finished eating, all the younger kids were running around, hanging around the fish tanks and playing some very loud games involving singing, shouting and dashing around between waiters carrying plates of dim-sum.

Nigel sat at his seat, continued eating and showed no interest in toppling over someone else's lunch. Instead, he kept munching away and talking to Celest and me (he was sitting between us). When he finished eating, he took out a book and started reading - I asked him if he wanted to see what the rest of the children were up to, but he ignored me. So strange.
