Farewell Football (So long Soccer)

I try to keep my eyes open by taking selfies while the girls sing Ole Ole to Nigel's annoyance
It has been an eventful World Cup season which started during the June school holidays and dragged well into July and the school term. Despite the rumours that the President of Singapore had declared Monday a public holiday, the three young people in our household had to go attend school today at the regular hours beginning 7:30am.

Given it was the Finals, we literally had no choice. I'm not sure why the match started an hour earlier, but I think it was all for the better as it meant they could take a 30 minute nap from 5.45am to 6.15am after the match ended. It is rare when you can use the term "nap" for a period of sleep between midnight and 6am, but there, I did.

I even managed to get them to take a 15 minute nap at half time (there, I did it again) which resulted in us missing the first 5 minutes of the second half. Luckily nobody scored or else that would have been a disaster in its own right. And I (the kids do not agree) was also glad that somebody (it could have been Argentina, I'm not German, I don't care) scored before the penalty-kick period as that would have dragged things on for another 30 agonising (because of the sheer effort in keeping my eyelids open) minutes. The three of them were going "Penalties! Penalties! Penalties!" and I was going "Keep quiet or you'll wake mummy up and we'll all have to go back to bed!"

Anyway, these were our first official World Cup matches (I think I'll write something about Awareness and Growing Up) and we did have fun. Nigel, is quite interested in football and the girls, today, were interested in looking out of our window to count how many other football fans live in our estate.

Despite my initial worries about the terrible timings of the matches (midnight, 3am, 4am, 6am) I think things turned out alright and we had a good time bonding at these unearthly hours.

Oh, and Congratulations to Germany!
