The final goodbye

The day finally came. The last party. The good farewell.

I lingered around a bit in school upon sending Amber in, for the very last time. I sat on the steps with her, talking to her, trying to figure out how she was feeling inside. She asked me to go, but I stayed on, to her annoyance. I spoke to some of her friends and took some pictures. None of these little ones seemed to understand the significance of the day - that this would be the last day they would see each other, possibly for a very long time.

Twenty years later, as they walk down a street in their business suits, someone would faintly recognise the other and say, "Hey! Weren't you from my Kindergarten? You look familiar!" and they would think back to November 13 2013, the last time they sat to each other in that colourful classroom, doing some art, singing a rhyming song, carefree and young.

Next year, some of them would be in the same school to carry on their life journeys. New friends will be made, old bonds loosened and left to fade into a memory of blurred montages.
