Our little social circles

I find it adorable that each child is starting to build up their own little social circle, small cliques of little friends which are different from their siblings. They go for their different playdates and parties and then speak to each other about "my friend" and not "your friend". They take ownership of their friends and get offended when someone says something bad about them and proceed to defend them.

Could this be the beginning of lifelong friendships? Could this be where “I’ve known you since we were in kindergarten, we’ve come so far” starts? Friendships can last a lifetime and I’m glad we’ve been able to be part of that beautiful process and to actually witness these little bonds being formed. Sometimes we’re even lucky enough to help them initiate these friendships, like pushing little sailboats off into a stream.
