Darnit, it's the exams

The end of year (SA2) exams are upon us again and this time, Shannon is also participating in the festivities. She didn’t really have exams last year as I think the MOE has done away with these stressful tests for P1 and most of P2. But here we are.

For both P2 and P4, there is a minor streaming exercise taking place, I believe, which might put them in different classes for next year. For better or worse, we have to play the game and try to ensure they end up in the better classes if possible. Based on the “Matthew Effect” as articulated by Malcolm Gladwell, the better you are, the better you become – a sort of snowball effect (which could go either way), so you really want to ensure your child gets the right classmates and teachers.

At the same time, we’re not stressing anyone out too much. Better to keep it light and fun, which is what learning and growing is all about. Right?
