Do kids in Japan ...

Dear Nigel, Shannon and Amber in the future. I just wanted to get this out there for your reference and consideration, maybe ten years down the road.

What's with the Japanese food?

You know, during my time, I didn't eat Japanese food until I was probably sixteen. And even after, it was on very rare occasions. After that first sushi meal, the next one was probably three years later. Of course, we had to go all the way to Jurong just to eat that (nobody thought of flying to Japan instead) - the long drive and climb up the hill made it all the more special. It was also a lot better than sweating away in the Capitol hawker centre.

Bottom-line is, Japanese food is not meant to be eaten every other day. It's only for special occasions and reserved for when you pass your exams with 100 marks or get into University. Do you think kids in Japan get to eat Singaporean food everyday? No way! Their parents make them earn their char kuay teow and chicken rice, nothing in this life is free - especially good food.

You guys have it easy! Japanese food, Italian food, American food, Chinese dim sum, burgers, local dishes, chicken floss buns, the choices are endless and I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how to pay for all this!
