Propagation of Preferences

Ask Amber what she wants to watch on TV she'll tell you Tom & Jerry.

Yes, it's the nonsensical, timeless chronicles of a love-hate relationship between a cat and a mouse as they try to beat each other at their game. Mindless violence, cruel torture and seemingly fatal accidents that keep the rat-race going, day after day, week after week, one child at a time.

Amber completely skipped the Barney experience. High-5, nah. Dora and Diego, who are they?

It's because of the Theory of Childhood Propagation of Preference. This Theory states that children would inevitably, subliminally (and some say magically) pass on their tastes, likes and dislikes to other children around them, within a certain radius obviously. Also, the older the child the stronger his transmission power which means younger kids are more susceptible to succumbing to the appetites of their elder compatriots.

And so it goes. Nigel took to the habit of watching the naughty pair of animals smacking each other silly, which of course meant that Shannon, and eventually Amber starting doing likewise. The Theory of Childhood Propagation of Preference, proven.

To me, it seems like only yesterday that Tom & Jerry was a pub/disco favorite, playing on screens across the island as people sipped on their vodkas and gargled their beers.
