Ben there, Done that
I was the official babysitter of two Ben 10 fans yesterday as we went to the "Power of the Omnitrix" show yesterday at the Singapore Expo.
The only thing I know about Ben 10 is that he can transform into several aliens using his powerful Omnitrix watch - even Rolex or Omega watches can't do that, so this watch is rather special.
The show was quite well done with just the right level of flashing lights, special effects and violence to keep young boys (and some girls) engaged. They made quite good use of smoke, the multimedia backdrop, alien outfits and psychedelic graphic animation (coupled with Cartoon Network copyrighted house music) to keep true to the Ben 10 TV show. The American actors and actress also made sure that all the kids were totally familiar with the slang as phrases like "Oh Man!", "Extreme" and "Dude" were thrown around and Nigel didn't ask me "Hey daddy, what's Dude?". If you child has ambitions of working in an American MNC in the future, Ben 10 is the way to go, Dude!!
I did have to remind Nigel and Josh occasionally to watch the show though as they kept talking among themselves. I also noticed that Nigel knew who the expert was in terms of what the different aliens could do - he had to check with the "boy with twenty Ben 10 shirts" quite often to inquire about some of the technical details of the storyline.
Thank goodness all I had when I was growing up was Sesame Street and Popeye.
