Nigel out for the night
Nigel's school organised an overnight campfire during the weekend where he and (some of) his classmates had a fun singing/dancing session around a real fire followed by an overnight camp session in their classrooms. He brought down a rather thick sleeping bag along with a backpack full of stuff like extra clothes, toothbrush, torchlight and so on.
Celest was slightly hesitant to let him stay overnight, but I was more enthusiastic about it thinking it would be a good chance for him to experience a bit of independence. After all, this is the boy with the pretty severe Separation Anxiety when we first tried to send him to playschool. So, I asked him if he wanted to stay and he responded immediately with a Yes. I then inquired if he was scared, and he said a bit because it was "his first time staying outside on his own" but was still looking forward to him. In fact, when he saw the parental consent form which we had to tick Yes or No and realised we selected Yes for all, he did a victory punch in the air and said "Yessssss!".
So he had lots of fun. After the overnight camp, school buses brought the bunch of kids to Pasir Ris park where they had some games, races and so on. When we got there and found them, the kids were let loose on the park with teachers scattered around to ensure mayhem didn't happen and no one was kidnapped.
So he's had a first taste of freedom. Next year, he'll want to buy a place of his own and move out.
