The great Ben 10 spear hunt

Nigel was playing with his Ben 10 toy in the car and basically the spear (don't have a picture now) dropped off and fell into the small hole between the back seat and the car frame. He "sheepishly" admitted to his grandfather (who brought the toy for him) that the spear was missing and didn't seem to make a huge fuss about it, probably knowing it was his own doing.

I'm documenting this for future reference by Nigel when he begins reading old blogs from his childhood.

We spent 2 nights digging under the car seat, with sticks, straws, vacuum cleaners, fingers, knives and so on. The frustrating thing is that we could actually see the little red thing sitting there but it was beyond the reach of our fingers and most of the objects we used weren't flexible enough to lift the darn object out of the crevice. Even though all this probing and poking was done past midnight, it was still hot and the frustration additionally made our blood boil further. You can imagine.

Dad almost dismantled the entire car. There were screws everywhere, car parts, tools, pieces of plastic and so on. For a moment it looked like we were installing a new hi-fi set or exhaust system. Cars are pretty complex pieces of equipment, nothing compared to lego or playmobile for sure. When we fixed everything back, there was some spare and you tend to wonder what your next steps should be.

Finally, Fred fixed on a piece of double-sided tape to the end of a stick and somehow managed to lift it out - which we had tried to do on the previous day to no avail. I wasn't even there when it happened as I had already mentally taken the easy way out and committed to buying him a new toy - which would cost in money, but save in time, sweat and mental health. Fred's good with digging for stuff, and even better with double-sided tape, that I can say.

So Nigel, when you read this. Thank Gong Gong and Uncle Fred and make sure you take them out for a nice meal on your first paycheck - they saved your red Ben 10 spear from spending eternity, forgotten and lodged in the dark corner of the car under the back seats.
