Tips for new parents: Be prepared to sharpen pencils

When was the last time you used a pencil? Maybe a mechanical pencil, but I'm talking about one of those 2B pencils that you have to sharpen. Sharpening a pencil involves poking it into a sharpener and rotating it round carefully so that the lead becomes a pointed tip with which you can write with - of course there are battery operated sharpeners too, which we progressed to at later stages of the pencil sharpener evolution history.

So when your children start using pencils and eventually have to (and try to) sharpen them, you know you've come full circle and can actually apply the experience you picked up during your own childhood and share the intimate secrets and hidden knowledge of pencil sharpening with them too. For example, keep the pencil as straight as possible, don't over sharpen (or you risk breaking the lead) and how to remove the inevitable broken lead from the sharpener.

Imagine, all the time using pencils when you were a kid was not in vain. It actually can come in handy besides just looking good on your resumé
