How to be a good father?
To be a good father to your children, what do you have to do?
I really don't know. Do you have to be interesting? Fun? Funny? Fun and funny are different and hard to be - it might mean taking them to interesting places to do new activities, to keep them looking forward to the next big thing. The pressure is there to keep them excited - is that how it goes? To be funny, you have to ensure your face is like a clown, that you fall over at the right time to keep them laughing their heads off. Am I supposed to be an entertainer?
It's tough being "on show" all the time to keep your children excited about things, but if that's what they continue to expect from you, then sooner or later we're all going to run out of ideas and energy.
Then there's the conflict with the mother. Mummy says no but Daddy thinks it's ok. Worst still if you throw the grandparents into the picture.
Someone's got to be the good guy right? But even the goo guy needs to have limits. Children, luckily, are forgiving and understand (I think) when you're trying your best to get them a good deal. However, children will still be children and always want more.
It's tough being a parent, it's really on-the-job training.
