How to raise a jaywalker?

By example.

I've seen many parents dashing with their children across the road when there is a junction just a short distance away. I've seen people walking across the pedestrian crossing with their kids, while the man is still red. And then sadly, we read in the papers of children getting involved in accidents while crossing the road. Who's to blame? The motorists? Yes, some of them drive too fast, but ultimately, a pedestrian is responsible for his own life.

It might mean walking a little extra distance with Nigel, or standing at the crossing with Shannon until the man turns green (even while there are completely no cars on the road) - although every other person has started to jaywalk, we still wait for the man.

Children learn, very quickly, by watching how their parents behave. Take a little effort to do the right thing for their sake. It might not save you time, but it could save their life.
