So, I spent this whole week at St. John's Ambulance doing a first aid course. It was tiring - mainly because I had to wake up at 7.20am every morning and more or less concentrate the whole day - something which I don't have to do on normal work days (both the waking and concentrating).

End of the course - I feel somewhat confident in helping a person in need if necessary. It's true about helpless incidents of people dying while others stand around unable to help. If only someone present was trained in CPR and the like and was able to step forward and at least try to help. Well, trying is better than not doing anything - it could be a life saved.

I hope I never have to put into practise what I have learnt - but if that day happens, I am now obligated (to myself and the victim) to give it a shot.
