Today is World Environment Day.

As a race, we seem to have single-handedly thrown the eco-system into a tailspin with little hope of any recovery in the short-term. Economics seem to have shown that the decisions that companies make to be profitable are often incompatible with being environmentally friendly - and we've seen that with the the poor response that Singapore companies have given.

It's going to take a while for us to realise that we are not just individuals, or groups, living in isolation. We are citizens of the world and we have to be responsible for the world in which we live.

It's really sad to see people taking heaps and heaps of plastic bags at the local NTUC and Sheng Siong. I honestly have yet to see anyone else refusing to take a bag or bringing their own. Hopefully things will change, no matter how slowly.
