Cycling in Onuma National Park
Today, our original plan was to take a train to Sapporo. But after finding out it costs over S$200 per person and would take us 3 hours to get there and another 3 to get back, we decided to go somewhere nearer instead.
So, we went to the nearby (20 mins on the train) Onuma Quasi National Park. Why is it Quasi? I'm not sure.
They let you rent bicycles (1000 yen per person per day) and cycle around the place. It's a nice quiet town with the National Park which is a series of paths (which you can cycle if you have the skill) around the lakes. There were ducks, other types of noisy birds like crows and some boats too. It was very cold though, probably about 7 degrees - and it's summer. Can you imagine winter, with the snow and everything?
We spent a considerable amount of time waiting for the rain to stop though - probably about an hour.
Overall, it was a nice slow day - although Celest complained that her legs and backside hurt because of all the cycling and walking. Good exercise :)
We're sleeping early tonight because we have an early morning flight back to Tokyo. We need to get to the airport by 8am - which means we have to leave the hotel by about 7.15am to catch the 7.23am bus. These Japanese are picky about time, their buses, trains (although the train back to Hakodate today was 10 mins late) and planes leave on time to the minute - and there are clocks everywhere and almost everyone is accurate. Be punctual or go home.
PS. I've uploaded some pictures and videos from our 3 days here, check them out.
