It's earth day ...
It's earth day, take a cold shower!
We live in a tropical and very hot country, do you really need to bathe in hot water then? If it were winter, then maybe.
I admit, I've been "pampered" with hot water. Cold water would send the shivers down my spine - but really, the moment I step out I start complaining how hot I the weather is and the sweat starts pouring.
If everyone decided not to turn on their heaters for a day, can you imagine the about of electricity we would save? I can, but the numbers would be way off - I don't have any official numbers. But I would think the hot water heater is quite a guzzler.
Benefits of showering in cold water:
1. Super refreshing - gives you a real wake up call!
2. Forces you be fast - hence also saving water.
3. Doesn't cause steaming, which means your light bulbs also last longer.
4. Improves your body resilience - and makes you an overall stronger and more tolerant person.
Of course, don't do this if you're sick and live in a cold country.
Confession time: I realise that I, too, dislike freezing to death - especially just after waking up in the morning and sneezing my brains out. So I cheat - but I don't turn on the heater still. Apparently we have a super insulated heater that manages to retain heat for a while (10 hours?). Seems like there's always a bit of hot water stuck in the tank when it comes to my turn - lucky me. However, in the spirit of torture and sacrifice for the benefit of mankind, I only use that to get things going. After that, I kill myself slowly - which isn't as bad as the sudden freeze.
