Windows Down
I sometimes drive with the windows down, which might seem crazy in a hot climate.
On the roads of our lives, the highways of being, the elements are the external forces that shape our lives, the experiences that God throws our way along this journey. To drive with the windows down, the wind in our hair is, what I think, to fully embrace life with all it's goodness and sorrows. The cool breeze and the fumes, the rush and the carbon, the music and the noise. It is essentially the world in which we live - which people tend to want to block out. But I say, this is our world, our environment, our air, let it in - I live here so let me live here. Driving around constantly closed up seems to take part of the fun out - like the bubble boy in Seinfeld that can only peer through the world through his glass wall. Occasionally let the outside world in, breathe it in, soak it up, mess your hair up and sing.
I often think about a goldfish that refuses to swim around in his bowl because he polluted it with his own %!$@.
Sometimes the wind coming in does cause a drag on the car - just like life's past experiences might bog us down. What I do is to open the back windows to create a let some of the air out. In a similar way, our lives need outlets on which we can reflect on issues and eventually let them go. Chatting with friends, sharing our happiness and sadness or other means.
Blogging helps too.
