The modern family
The world is growing smaller - thanks to technologies like the webcam and broadband Internet. Here's a video-conference session we had yesterday - one of many we've had before, where Nigel is actively communicating with Gong Gong, Mama, Fred and Gabriel (where was BihYe?) via the Internet. Besides the one second delay, it's almost like having them sitting directly in the same room.
Children these days are so comfortable with technology that seeing themselves or a family member on the screen is no big deal. Neither is talking to someone on the other side of the world or speaking into a machine. Nigel knows how to use the tablet pen to "send" (wacky) drawings over the instand messenger while having the audio and video conference going on.
They've grown up surrounded by these capabilities and it's become part of their lives. This is their world.
