Secret to Success: Communication
Watching the children as they grow, it's amazing how much communication skills they pick up within the early years. Nigel is just 22 months older than Shannon, yet his vocabulary, sentence structures and general ability to express himself is a huge leap over her.
All of a sudden (no, actually it was gradual, so gradual we forgot to notice) he became a great talker, naughty yes, but still great. We've met other children his age who have yet to reach his standard in terms of speaking - he might be a bit small on the size and weight side, but he's a heavy one in terms of the nonsense he comes up with. It's amazing.
And we're not under-estimating Shannon. She's on the way there too - picking up words, expressions and so on. When she (or someone else) drops something or falls down, she inevitably says in her (somewhat) sacarstic tone: "See? See?". Can't get better than that.
Secret to Life: Communication. It doesn't matter how big, strong, smart, tough, good looking you are - if you cannot communicate to your peers, family, the world, about your skills and talents - no one will notice. You need to know how to blow your own trumpet, so to speak.
Which is why we started getting Shannon to talk every now and then to Barney. But that might lead to other problems - another story altogether :)
