The Gift of the Blog
The thing that keeps me going as I type these blogs is that I'm actually giving Nigel, Shannon and anyone else down the line a "gift". I'm actually writing memoirs for the future generations to read - isn't that cool?
The Blog, and essentially the Internet, is such a new tool of our
generation - something never before accessible to our ancestors -
allows us to write notes to people of the future. Generations from now,
our children and their children (and so on) will be sifting through
these pages for clues on their past - what the people of our present
time were thinking, doing and writing about. "Wow! My great-grandfather
had a blog - check it out!" and maybe for my eulogy they'd read out a
blog entry I wrote when I was sitting at my desk at work - bizarre!
Bar the possibility of Blogger closing down (it's owned by Google right?) - whatever is written here would be cemented into the sidewalks of cyberspace for digital eternity. When Nigel and Shannon turn 18, 19 or twelve - they can flip through the pages of cyber-history to read all the stuff I'm writing, complaints, potty pictures and so on. How exciting! How thought-provoking! How embarrasing - I might have to go back and start editing some of the old posts! Then again, maybe not - this is meant to be an honest and open narrative of our lives and theirs, mingled together in a parent-child bond - good and bad times all laid out plainly to see, present and future.
So - if you're reading this - Hi Nigel! Hi Shannon! I'm glad you took time to stop by and read some of your Dad's stuff. I hope there's nothing in here that's defamatory in nature and would affect your chances of getting that job you're applying for! You guys are great kids - although very naughty at times - and we love you very much! How's things in the future?
