Nigel and Shannon at Cass' birthday
Unfortunately I didn't bring a camera nor did I have the time to whip out the phone!
We went to Cass' 1 year old birthday party today with the kiddos - Cass (rhymes with "has") is the daughter of Nora, one of my SIM GDBA course buddies from 2002 (wow, it's been 3 years already!). Fellow buddies Desmond and Ya Ling were also there - apparently they are married and I was at their wedding. All I remember was a Mashi Maro in a suit next to a very pretty bride.
Nigel loves birthday parties - I think he's big enough to understand that it's not always his birthday - else he'd be about 26 years old now. He did his part today though and stood patiently next to the birthday girl, singing the song and staring at the cake. He was just waiting for the over-excited Cass to begin crying (I think it's quite common for the birthday boy/girl to cry just after the song is over - I've seen it a few times, not sure if it's because the song ended or it just hit them that they turned 1 year older - in this case from 0 to 1) so that he could step in to blow the candle.
As usual at kids parties - all havoc breaks loose. Spilled drinks, food bits, too much wine - most parents would speak 1 line to another parent (or non-parent also I guess) and say "hang on" to go grab that delinquent child back. It's really tiring business - and the non-parents would be thinking to themselves "Thank Goodness I don't have to deal with that"... One day my friend, it's going to be your turn. If you're lucky you might have triplets.
Thanks to Nora and Kelvin for inviting us to your lovely daughter's birthday - even though you somewhat insisted that it wasn't a party, IT SURE LOOKED LIKE A PARTY TO ME!! Were you trying to disguise it to look like a wine appreciation gathering? :) Send me a link to your pictures please.
