What is Altruism?
Why do people have kids? It's not an easy thing to do as I have shared earlier. Neither is it a blind leap of faith that people take nowadays given that everyone knows people who have kids, seen people with kids and probably know some kids themselves. Heck, most of us even have vivid memories of being kids! These are not mysteries that people get themselves into by mistake - these are logical explicit choices that normal human beings make - to become parents. And some decide not to as well, in order to continue living their own lives, free from the burdens of childraising and all-limbs-on-the-floor tantrums.
From what I think, having kids is bound to be a selfless act of giving - your time, energy, money. Having to give up your single/couple lifestyle is a big and essentially irreversible step in life and means that from that point in life, you would have other people that are dependent upon you for their needs - now that's quite a big form of responsibility - one that you can't quit from (i.e. unlike a working job).
