Good and Bad Unite
We just finished watching a somewhat unknown movie called "assault on Precinct 13" starring Ethan Hawke and Lawrence Fishburne. It's somewhat violent, full of foul language and very dark (everything happens in one night) - but is quite the action flick. We took 2 nights to finish it, which is quite fast given that the movie is almost 110 minutes long - but it's very watchable and the time went by very quickly.
The show features (a whole bunch of) crooked cops, a Mafia boss (who turns momentarily good) and a straight-shooting cop (who is willing to bend the rules). The show manages to conjure up the "how the heck are they gonna make it" feeling like in Matrix 3 and War of the Worlds.
Rotten Tomatoes gave this show a decent 60/100. Apparently it's a remake of a 1976 show of the same title (which got 95/100). The main difference between the old and the new movies are the enemy outside.
I think the main message is how Good is not always Good and Bad can occasionally be helpful. Reminds me of the soft side of Ah Bengs, or how if you push the right-buttons you can make the naughtiest kid do helpful things (even if it's just for a while). The world is not pure black and white and we should be flexible enough to see beyond the surface of human character. When there is a common opponent, different and contrasting people (even police and crooks) can come together for a cause.
I keep getting Lawrence Fishburne mixed up with Samuel L. Jackson. I think they are the same person. Huh?
